Alternative Referrals

If a staff member has urgent concerns regarding a child’s safety during nursery hours, they must complete a safeguarding referral and report it immediately to a member of the Child Protection Team or the nearest available team member.

 


 

1. Introduction

Edu Fun Nursery is committed to protecting and safeguarding the welfare of children in its care. This policy is aligned with UAE Child Protection Law No. 3 (Wadeema’s Law) and Federal Law No. 5 of 1983 governing nurseries.

 


 
2. Purpose of the Policy

 

2.1 Our Objectives:

Edu Fun Nursery aims to provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. This policy guides both staff and parents on:

  • Recognizing abuse

  • Preventing abuse

  • Responding to concerns

 

2.2 Three Key Elements:
  • Prevention: Promoting a positive nursery atmosphere and pastoral care

  • Protection: Implementing procedures and staff training

  • Support: Helping children who may be at risk

Note: Edu Fun Nursery acts as a referral agency, not an investigator.

 


 

3. Nursery Policy

 

3.1 Our Commitments:
  • Creating a safe and secure environment

  • Establishing procedures for reporting and handling incidents

 


 

4. Framework and Local Context

 

4.1 All adults working with children share the responsibility to protect them.

The Child Protection Coordinator (CPC) oversees the enforcement of this policy.

 

4.2 UAE legislation, including Wadeema’s Law, protects children from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.

 


 

5. Roles and Responsibilities

  • All staff are responsible for protecting children.

  • The Child Protection Officer ensures proper referrals and policy adherence.

  • The Deputy Officer supports and acts when the CPC is unavailable.

 


 

6. Procedures

All actions are taken in line with local safeguarding guidelines.

7. Training and Support

  • All staff receive child protection training, with annual refreshers.

  • The CPC receives updated training regularly.

  • Guidance on professional conduct and boundaries is provided at induction.

 


 

8. Professional Confidentiality

  • Confidentiality protects the child—not secrecy. Staff must not promise secrecy.

  • Only share case details on a need-to-know basis.

 


 

9. Records and Monitoring

  • Staff must document any disclosures or observations with date, time, and context.

  • Records are securely stored by the CPC.

  • If a child transfers, records are passed confidentially to the new institution’s CPC.

 


 

10. Supporting Children at Risk

Edu Fun Nursery supports at-risk children by:

  • Building self-esteem and motivation

  • Creating a respectful and safe environment

  • Using consistent behavior practices

  • Maintaining positive parental engagement

Extra care is given to children with disabilities, or those exposed to domestic violence, substance abuse, or similar risks.

 


 

11. Safe Nursery, Safe Staff

  • Allegations against staff are handled with professionalism and integrity.

  • Investigations are conducted only by authorized bodies, such as the police.

 


 

12. Use of Nursery Premises by External Agencies

External agencies must have valid safeguarding policies before using nursery facilities.

 


 

13. Whistleblowing

  • Staff are encouraged to report concerns about colleagues’ conduct.

  • All staff must follow the Professional Code of Conduct.

 


 

14. Policy Review

  • This policy is reviewed annually by the leadership team.

  • All contact details and procedures are updated regularly.
